Welcome to our guide to sea fishing tackle. Weather fishing from a boat or from the beach, the pursuit for salt water fish offers a wide variety of fishing opportunities. Like shore fishing in harbours and estuaries, for mullet and flounder or rock hoping, in chase of bass, Pollock, wrasse and conger. To wind swept sand and shingle beaches, to try your luck for plaice, sole, rays, smooth hounds and cod.
Then their is piers, quays, jetties and man made constructions for your use with ledgering, float fishing and spinning in your artillery, and if that?s not enough you can take to the sea by boat. Inshore for the same species as from the shore, or off shore over wrecks, ledges and banks in lure of cod, ling, colefish, pollock, turbot, brill and tope.
If you do not own a boat,or know some one who does. There are many good charter skippers based around the country that do, and they have the knowledge, equipment and boat to get you connected to your quarry.
For the beach or pier fishing,a beachcaster of ten to twelve foot is needed, either ringed to take a fixed spool or multiplier reel. The fixed spool being the easier to use for a beginner, and then loaded with about 15lb braking strain monofilament line. To this is attached about 25foot of 50lb+ shock leader. This takes the stres from the reel line when casting the end tackle. The end tackle which there are many different rigs to chose from, is connected to the end of the shock leader.
For general boat fishing a shorter rod is used of about six to eight foot in length, and from a 12lb class being for light fishing,to 50lb class for heavier fishing in deep waters. Then the reel a multiplier is normally used for boat fishing, but a fixed spool reel can be used for the light end.
The line normally weighted to match the class of rod and reel you have chosen to use. Next your end tackle, and like beach fishing there are multitudes of rigs and weights to chose from, depending on where and what you are fishing for. Always remember with sea fishing you just never know quite what?s going to be on the end of your line.
