Welcome to our guide to lure fishing tackle. Lure fishing has been the mainstream method of fishing for many years in countries like America and Australia. But is growing in popularity in the United Kingdom, and with every year that passes more and more anglers are turning to lure fishing to catch there quarry. With a lure you can target most predatory species and even some that are not.
There are literally thousands of different styles of lures, in many shapes, sizes and colours, and with rods and reels to match. The rods come in two styles the first being the spinning rod, this ranges from six to eleven foot in length, with different casting weights, and is used with a fixed spool reel in size and weight to match the rod.
The second style of rod is the casting rod, and comes in the same lengths as the spinning rod, although the shorter lengths are more common. The eyes on the casting rod are rung on the top of the rod, so as to be used with a spin cast reel or multiplier, that is also seated on the top of the rod.
Both styles are equally as good and down to personal preference. The breaking strain of the line used on the reel will depend on your quarry, and though monofilament is mainly used. Braided lines are becoming more popular due to them being low in memory, and very little stretch if any thus keeping the lure angler in direct touch with his lure and the fish.
To choose your lure is most probably the hardest part of lure fishing, with so many different types on the market to choose from it can be a mine field. So I would first look at the species you are targeting, and chose lures that mimic and represent there natural pray. Then as confidence grows experiment with other lures, talk to other lure anglers you meet on your travels to learn on what’s catching in your area, and build up your knowledge on lure fishing.
