Product Description
Ashlea Poll is one of the few remaining, magical, secret carp waters that has retained its aura since the 1960's. Many leading carp anglers have fished this little lily-covered lake, including Jack Hilton, Tom Mintram, Peter Mohan, who caught the first 30from the water in July 1969, and who ran the fishery for 17 years for members of the British Carp Study Group, and Kevin Maddocks, who still holds the Ashlea record at 38 _ lbs. Other members include Roger Emmert, who first cracked the water in the winter, Geoff Booth, Alan Downie, the late Vic Gillings, Dave Gawthorn, and many others. Many members of the syndicate have been beaten by this attractive fishery which has always had the reputation of being one of the most difficult waters in the country.
Len Gurd's exciting and revealing video was filmed on a broadcast standard camera in 1993, and it recaptures much of the special atmosphere of this unusual carp pool, Len, and John Baker, who presents the film and extracts a magnificent 32lb leather carp from the dense lilies for the camera, have delved into the archives and found press clippings, old photos, and information from angling historian Chris Ball, who provides an interesting insight into the way the pool was when it was first discovered.
There are historical shots of the early anglers at Ashlea, including photographs of Jack Hilton and others, and some of the tackle used at the pool in the past. However, not all the film revolves around its past- very big carp are caught for the camera at one of the carp fishing's most exclusive venues and John Baker guides viewer through his fishing experiences at the pool, including solutions to some of the practical problems of fishing such a small and heavily weeded water.
This beautifully made video is destined to become a collector's item, for it is a rare insight into fishing at a water of which most carp anglers have heard, but will never have the chance to see?except on this full-length professional production, from the Original Video Company.
